‘I’m Happier And More Grounded In Ghana’ – Efia Odo Prefers Ghana Over US
Ghanaian socialite and actress Efia Odo has opened up about why she prefers living in Ghana to staying in the United States, saying life in Ghana has made her happier and helped her grow as a person.
Speaking during a TikTok live session on November 3, 2026, Efia Odo said her choice to live in Ghana is about where she feels more comfortable and fulfilled.
According to her, Ghana gives her more freedom in a different sense and has helped her become more grounded. She explained that staying in Ghana has shaped her into a better version of herself compared to her life in America.
Efia Odo also spoke about cultural values, noting that Ghana and Africa as a whole place high importance on respect, especially in how children relate to adults.
She expressed concern that in America, there is too much freedom which sometimes leads to disrespect, particularly among young people. In contrast, she believes Ghanaian children are raised to be respectful towards elders and authority figures.
She stated that some American children do not know how to speak properly to grown-ups and teachers, describing them as disrespectful in their interactions.
However, the actress admitted that there is one aspect of American life she admires, which is the freedom of expression. She said in the US, people including children are encouraged to speak up when something bothers them and to stand up for themselves.
Efia Odo pointed out that in Ghana, children are often expected to remain silent out of respect for adults, even when they are going through difficult situations. She said this culture can prevent children from reporting issues that affect them.
She explained that when children are not allowed to talk about what they are experiencing, they can become vulnerable to abuse and manipulation. She noted that many young girls go through harassment and oppression but stay silent because they fear being seen as disrespectful.
According to her, this pattern of silencing children can affect them in adulthood, making them timid and unable to express their emotions and opinions.
Efia Odo stressed that while children should be taught to respect adults, they should also be given the confidence to speak out when something is wrong.
